Dont stop til you get enough!

So, Mark Tuckey has opened a new homewares shop in Avalon. Perfect furniture, perfect goey stuff, perfect bags, etc etc. Yet another reason to not have to leave, ever. I'll take it all, thanks!

One girl's treasure

I've talked about rubbish collection before. Back on dry land though there is also a six monthly collection of junk which means that everybody has a good clear out and piles it up outside their house in advance. In these days of vintage and distressed looks, its serious business to drive around and score something that might turn out to be your treasure.

Being up on the Northern Beaches, there's plenty of gems ripe for the picking. This week alone, I've scored a very old wicker bench and a coffee table, along with assorted bric-a-brac, cake stands and the like. There's a pile up happening in the garage as we speak, ready for the refurb action to begin.

I think the bench is going dark grey and I'm thinking of denim for the cover, with a couple of bolsters to finish it off. Alternatively, Im thinking of tea-staining some oversized roses print fabric but that's possibly a bit too obvious. The basket table is actually a lot nicer than the picture shows. Im thinking lime green... Any thoughts?

One man's junk...

So, after a break, the arrival of my new, rather gorgeous (and rather large) niece, Im back in Sydney. Rather good thing too it turns out as my incoming visa runs out next Saturday and I would not have been able to get back in. So, now Im marooned in Australia until they finally get to the bottom of the pile to what is my visa application and make a decision one way or another.

So, I've got to keep my spirits up and the best way I know how, is to go shopping.

I've mentioned before about furniture created during the depression era in Australia, of which there is a brilliant exhibition at the Museum of Sydney, called Spent. Due to lack of funds, people created stuff to furnish their homes from packing crates, of which there were plenty to be found at the docks. I've now found many examples and yesterday found a brilliant place called 'Doug up on Bourke' which was jam packed with depression furniture, alongside industrial fittings and loads of curiosities. We had a lovely couple of hours there lusting at oversized desks that M wants for his future studio, and first class seating from old trains.

PS sorry for the rather low level images, my camera is on the blink
